JEWEL 45s
In 1964 Stan Lewis started the Jewel label in his hometown Shreveport, LA. Lewis was not only label owner. He was also a studio owner, record producer, record distributor and owner of a record store. On the Jewel label and its subsidaries Ronn and Paula Lewis’ issued all kinds of music, mainly blues, soul and (off course) gospel. The first gospel released was in the beginning of 1966. Apparently Lewis didn’t consider it a very good idea to mix his then mainly blues 45s to be mixed up with his gospel output, so he started the Jewel Devotional Series which had the same outlook as the ‘regular’ Jewel label. Lewis made similar division between Blues albums and Gospel albums.
