CHURCH DOOR
The Church Door label out of Atlanta, Georgia was started by Herb Lance, who together with Calvin Arnold ran a studio in Atlanta, in the late 1960s or early 1970s. On many a Church Door 45 Calvin Arnold is given credited as producer and Herb Lance as executive producer. It's interesting to notice that artists (Favorite Aires, Mighty Knights) who had 45s released on Church Door had an album (including the 45s) released in the first half of the 1970s on the Mainstream label out of New York. Church Door started releasing albums on its own label by the end of 1970s. Around that time Rev. Jasper Williams had taken over control (and ownership?) of Church Door. Church Door became mainly an outlet for Jasper Williams' sermons. In the first half of the eighties Atlanta International Record Company (A.I.R.). who had been distributing Church Door records for several year, took over Church Door. Releases on Church Door did get a Church Door catalogue number but the pressed logo on the vinyl was an AIR label. Around 1987 the Church Door label was folded by A.I.R. who continued releasing records by artists previously on Church Door on the A.I.R. label.
